7-Channel Cluster Electrode

Innovative recording in larger areas

Thomas RECORDING offers various types of electrodes and electrode arrays. Beside single channel fibers Thomas RECORDING provides electrode fibers with multiple recordng channels and electrode arrays. The cluster electrode is a new way to record in a larger area in the brain while keeping the costs for new equipment low.

Key features:
  • 7 electrodes moved as one
  • Precise positioning of the electrodes
  • Movable with Thomas MEM or equal micromanipulators
  • Very small diameters

Features

The Thomas RECORDING Cluster Electrode is a newly developed innovative multi electrode for the convenient, economical and timesaving recording of multiple neuronal signals in the brain. The Cluster electrode contains seven well known and established Thomas quartzglass-insulated platinum/tungsten single electrode fibers which are combined with biocompatible and water soluble glue.

Each single electrode has a shaft diameter of about 40µm, while the folded Cluster electrode has a diameter of only about 180µm, which is in the range of other metal-coated microelectrodes (see figure 1). Furthermore, the Cluster electrodes are especially grinded and smoothed to allow a precise positioning in every target area of the brain while preserving minimal tissue damage. Afterward positioning, the Cluster electrode will unfold autonomously without any additional work. The special biocompatible and water soluble glue will not affect the signal quality as it will be completely absorbed.

The Thomas Cluster electrode is especially well suited for the use with the Thomas MEM, but can be adapted to other microdrives as well. The Thomas Cluster Electrode allows you to record multiple signals in a larger area of the brain with just one penetration, which multiplies your recording field and saves your valuable time.
