DBS Microelectrodes

The implantable stimulation-microelectrode of our DBS system for rodents consists of a quartz-glass insulated platinum/tungsten fiber with a conical tip (tip shape D). The tip is coated with iridium oxide to increase the charge transfer capacity of the electrode and to lower the electrode tissue impedance. The emicroelectrode is available with internal (parallel to the electrode fiber) or external ground wire (to be winded around a ground screw).

Product Description

Key Features

  • Small tip (well suited to stimulate small brain targets)

  • Quartz-glass insulated platinum/tungsten electrode fiber with thin shaft

  • Minimized tissue damage

  • Low-Impedance (below 50 kOhm)

  • High charge transfer capacity

  • Biocompatible materials

  • Integrated ground wire (optional external ground wire to be winded around a ground screwe)

  • Adapter for easy and precise implantation available

External/Internal Ground Contact

The implantable stimulation microelectrode is available with an internal or an external ground contact. The internal ground wire is integrated in the electrode, parallel to the stimulation electrode fiber. Since the internal grounding wire is arranged parallel to the electrode fiber, it automatically establishes a secure ground connection to the test animal during implantation. An additional grounding screw is not required. Alternatively, we also offer stimulation electrodes with an external ground wire that can be connected to a ground screw, for example. Both configurations are shown in the picture on the right side.

Implantation Holder

The DBS stimulation microelectrodes are optionally available with threaded rod holder. We offer a threaded rod that fits to the holder integrated in the electrode and that can be clamped to the electrode holder of your stereotaxic instrument.

The threaded rod allows for easier and more precise implantation of the microelectrode.
