Silicon Probes

Thomas RECORDING provides electrode arrays that are created with cutting edge microfabrication and packaging technologies, ensuring the highest level of precision and quality. The fabricated silicon-based probes comprising typically 8 to 64 electrodes per shaft. These probes are specifically engineered to minimize tissue damage and maximize signal quality, resulting in superior recording accuracy. Platinum (Pt), Iridium Oxide (IrOx) or Gold (Au) are used as electrode material. Beside standard silicon probe layouts, it is one of our strengths to offer custom-designed probes. Thanks to their unique designed mechanical and geometric characteristics, these probes deliver consistent and reproducible results, ensuring the reliability of your recorded data.

Product Description

Silicon Probes for chronic Recordings

The silicon probe for chronic recording applications provided by Thomas RECORDING is avaialble in two different configurations. One version is assembled onto a 3-cm-long ultra-flexible polyimide cable (flexboard) designed to interface with a ZIF-plug or Omnetics connector. This chronic layout is perfectly suitable for chronic experiments and setups where it is recommended to mechanically decouple the connector from the silicon probe. This chronic probe is implanted using the Thomas RECORDING implantation tool and water soluable glue (see video below). There is a variety of probe configurations and connector types that we can provide at the other side of the flexboard cable so we can make sure your existing headstage will be compatible with the electrode array.

The second version of the chronic silicon probe is assembled as close to the connector as possible. This is the most compact probe layout and perfectly suitable for small-animal models in acute and chronic setups. This probe layout typically makes use of nano Omnetics connectors.

Silicon Probes for acute Recordings

The Thomas silicon probe for acute recordings is assembled onto a rigid printed circuit board (PCB), which can be attached to a stereotactic frame and is often used in acute setups. Depending on the amount of channels, different connectors can be used such as DIL, MOLC, Micro Omnetics, etc...

As customization is our strength, please do not hesitate to contact us for your individual acute probe design.
