Optogenetics

Product Description
Thomas RECORDING Products for optogenetic research include specialized LED light sources, optical fiber for delivering light to specific targets, and control systems for pulsing and synchronizing light stimulation. Optogenetic LED modules are available with different light wavelenghts. Thomas RECORDING Optical fibers used to deliver light from the light source to the brain target have a unique selling point in the conical fiber tip, which results in minimized tissue damage when the fiber is inserted into the brain. Our products are made with the well-known quality and precision “Made in Germany”.
Optical Fibers
Thomas RECORDING optical fibers are used to deliver light from the light source to the brain target. Our optical fibers have a unique selling point in the conical fiber tip, which results in minimized tissue damage when the fiber is inserted into the brain. Thomas RECORDING optical fibers are made for chronic or acute optogenetic experiments in living animals. They can be implanted permanently or inserted for the duration of a single session. Furthermore these fiber are used for in-vitro applications like in lab settings to control neural activity in cell cultures or brain slices. Our optical fibers can be combined with microelectrodes or microelectrode arrays (fixed or moveable) for simultaneous stimulation and recording, enabling detailed studies of neural circuits.

LED-Light Souces
Thomas RECORDING LED light sources are a key part of the optical setups for optogenetic studies. The LED-light sources are used for photo-excitation or photo-inhibition in in-vivo or in-vitro optogenetic experiments. Our LED-light sources offer well-defined spectral, temporal, and spatial control as well as homogenous and constant illumination. In experiments involving multiple opsins, narrow emission spectrum is important to selectivily activate each opsin. In some experiments illumination stability is vital because any fluctuations or “hot spots” may cause inconsistent protein activation in the cells under illumination. Using Thomas RECORDING LED illumination systems for optogenetics studies provides many advantages compared to laser-based systems, including Illumination Homogeneity and Stability, Opsin Selectivity, Light Switching, Illumination Intensity Control and Versatility.

LED-Light Source Controller
Thomas RECORDING LED light sources controller provides tunable DC constant current for our high power LED light sources. In some experiments illumination stability is vital because any fluctuations or “hot spots” may cause inconsistent protein activation in the cells under illumination. Thomas RECORDING constant-current sourc econtrollers guarantee stable LED light emssion. Our controllers can be triggered by external signal sources to generate time-pulsed light emissions from the LED light sources.
R&D Project
As part of a research and development project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, TREC GmbH is currently developing a new optical stimulation system for freely moving laboratory animals.
