Stimulation Microelectrodes

Thomas RECORDING offers a broad range of stimulation microelectrodes for neurophysiological applications. Our quartz glass fiber microelectrodes with conical tips are coated with iridium oxide for minimal electrode-tissue impedance and high charge transfer capacity, well suited for electrical stimulation.

Chronic Stimulation Electrodes

Thomas RECORDING offers a broad range of implantable mono- and bipolar stimulation microelectrodes based on TREC´s iridium-oxide coated quartz glass insulated platinum tungsten electrode fibers. These electrode fibers have outer diameters of 80...100 µm and impedance values between 50 kOhm and 200 kOhm. Since the electrodes are highly dependent on the respective application, we must manufacture these stimulation electrodes to customer specifications. Please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can offer you stimulation electrodes tailored to your requirements.

Dual Bipolar Stimulation Microelectrode

Dual bipolar stimulation electrode for simultaneous bilateral bipolar electrical stimulation in small animals (e.g. rats, mice).

This electrode consists of two Thomas tetrode fibers (OD=100µm) with conical tip shapes (tip D). The tip contact impedance is 500-800kOhm (uncoated). Additional Iridium Oxide coating is optional available and lowers the impedance to 100-200kOhm.

A small metal tube is mounted to the rear side of the printed circuit board for fixation of the electrode to the implantation electrode holder rod with TREC water soluable glue (see video for unique Thomas RECORDING implantation technique).
